Title: Changes in EEG model parameters with age in the healthy population

Background: Robinson, Rennie, Wright, and others have developed a model of brain electrical activity that can be used to predict cortical EEG time series and spectra based on a number of neurophysiological parameters. Fits to empirical spectra allow determination of parameters including corticothalamic time delays, average rise and decay times of the cell-body potential, and gains for connectivity between cortical and thalamic neuronal populations.
Aims: This study will allow us to determine normal values and age trends for the parameters of the model mentioned, and to compare age trends in different aspects of neurophysiology. Implications will be discussed for physiological changes during brain maturation.
Method: Model parameter values have been obtained by fitting to empirical EEG spectra of healthy individuals in the BRC database. Statistical methods will be applied to determine age trends and correlations among model parameters. Age trends will also be analyzed in terms of changes in brain physiology with age as reported in the literature.
