Child obesity and MRI

Proposal details

Title: Body mass index (BMI) and brain MRI in children and adolescents
Research Area(s): Brain Imaging
Thinking and Cognition
Background: Work from our lab and others demonstrates that obesity is associated with poor neurocognitive outcome, including reduced cognitive function and abnormalities on neuroimaging in adults. Evidence for cognitive impairment in obese children/adolescents is mixed and no study has examined brain MRI and childhood obesity.
Aims: 1. Compare structual brain MRI across BMI groups in children and adolescents 2. Compare DTI indices across BMI groups in children and adolescents
Method: Using data from the BRID, we will test the above hypotheses.
