Proposal details

Title: Can optimized care for type 2 diabetes improve cognitive function?
Research Area(s): Thinking and Cognition
Background: Type 2 diabetes is common and associated with deficits in multiple cognitive domains, including attention, executive function, and memory. Recent studies have shown that improved management of type 2 diabetes is associated with cognitive benefits, but the mechanisms for these gains are unclear. Our ongoing pilot study is examining possible mechanisms and we are seeking the opportunity to compare cogitive test results this patient group to the existing controls from the Brain Resource International Database.
Aims: 1. Demonstrate cognitive impairment is common in persons with type 2 diabetes relative to controls from the Brain Resource International Database 2. Examine possible mechanisms for these deficits before and after optimization of treatment
Method: Compare Webneuro test performance in persons with type 2 diabetes to healthy controls from the Brain Resource International Database.
